Bairang
A bairang letter is sent without enough postage. Whoever receives it pays, or it goes back.
Something I make does not reach somebody. Either I failed to send it or they failed to receive it. I can rarely tell which. So I forget it and try again, pardoning everybody for the crime of not having reached me already.
I am starting Bairang. It is a band of individual practitioners, each doing their own thing between art and design. They show and publish together in episodes. I am curator, initiator and one of the participants.
Each invitation carries a provocation. The first: make one work about something that did not arrive, and leave open whose failure it was.
I do not apply to galleries. I write to spaces and ask what they could offer. I invite them to apply or pitch.
There is no open call. You can propose yourself on the site, as a person or as a space, to be considered for being invited to pitch.
This is one thing that is happening. Chip in.
